Altus High School’s Noah Barfknecht
Altus High School senior Noah Barfknecht has built his reputation as a versatile athlete and dependable teammate through discipline, resilience and a deep sense of purpose shaped by his upbringing.
Barfknecht, who plays wide receiver and defensive back, credits his mother as his biggest inspiration. “Since a young age it’s always just been me and my mother, and we’ve been through a lot of hard times,” he said. “Her drive to care and provide for me as well as be a healthcare worker inspires me to work hard and care for all.”
As he enters his senior year, Barfknecht balances academics and athletics with a focus on growth. His favorite class, AP Government with Ms. Robinson, reflects his interest in understanding the world beyond the field.
On the field, Barfknecht has been part of several memorable moments, including a one-handed red zone catch by a teammate in a tightly contested game. Still, he values team success over individual highlights. “I enjoy most just being a part of the team,” he said. “I have a great family in my team and it just makes everything special.”
One of the most meaningful moments of his career came during a district championship game against Carl Albert, when the team rallied to help a teammate with special needs score a touchdown. The play exemplified the unity Barfknecht believes defines Altus football.
He points to “discipline, courage and unity” as the most important lessons he has learned through the sport. Those qualities are especially important at his positions, where patience and instinct play a major role. “The hardest thing is learning to trust and judge your instincts,” he said.
Barfknecht also draws inspiration from former teammate Jamele Alexander, now committed to the University of Central Oklahoma. “He was the perfect teammate in every aspect and my biggest idol through my high school football career,” Barfknecht said.
Off the field, he enjoys golfing, swimming, cooking and fishing, as well as spending time with loved ones. Before each game, he centers himself by connecting with teammates and through prayer. “I always pray and talk to my lord and savior Jesus Christ and ask for guidance, safety and strength,” he said.
Barfknecht said his favorite place in Altus is the school’s stadium and practice facilities, where he has created lasting memories. “I have great memories with my teammates and coaches that will forever remain my favorite place in this town,” he said.
As a prominent student-athlete, Barfknecht remains committed to making an impact both on and off the field, driven by his team, his community and the values that continue to guide him forward.
