At Altus High School, sophomore Kiki Huckins is building her identity through steady growth and a commitment to improvement. A member of both the volleyball and tennis programs, Huckins has embraced her role as a libero and back-row specialist on the court, focusing on consistency, defensive awareness, and doing the small things that elevate a team’s performance.
Her approach to athletics is rooted in a simple but powerful mindset, getting better every day. Huckins understands that success does not come overnight, and her journey reflects the value of patience and persistence. Over the past few years, she has dedicated herself to learning new techniques and adapting to different coaching styles, steadily refining her skill set along the way. While she may not point to a single defining highlight yet, her development speaks to a larger picture of long-term growth.
Much of Huckins’ motivation comes from those closest to her, especially her older sister Jordyn, who has long been a source of inspiration and support. That influence extends beyond family, as teachers like her freshman Spanish instructor, Mr. Reyna, have helped shape her perspective. His emphasis on learning over grades created an environment where she could reset during stressful days, reinforcing the importance of balance in a demanding schedule.
That balance is something Huckins continues to manage as she juggles athletics with academics and extracurricular involvement, including Kay Club and National Honor Society. Staying on top of schoolwork while competing in multiple sports requires discipline, something she has learned to prioritize by keeping up with assignments and avoiding falling behind.
On the court, Huckins thrives on competition, especially when facing close friend Lyla Bonds, whose presence pushes her to elevate her game. She also recognizes the contributions of teammates like Olivia Williams, whose efforts as a setter often go unnoticed but remain essential to the team’s success.
With strong community support behind Altus volleyball, Huckins takes pride in representing her school. That encouragement fuels her drive to give her best effort every time she steps on the court, continuing her pursuit of growth both as an athlete and a student.
