Altus High School’s Mom of the Month – Heather Bonds

Altus High School’s latest Mom of the Month, Heather Bonds, has built a reputation for showing up, pitching in and creating lasting connections within the school community.

Bonds, a longtime supporter of Altus athletics, is the mother of two daughters who have both been deeply involved in school activities. Her oldest daughter, Neely, graduated in 2025 after participating in swimming and cheerleading. Her youngest, Lyla, is entering her sophomore year and competes in volleyball and tennis.

Bonds said her involvement began long before high school.

“I think it goes all the way back to when the girls played t-ball and we would bring snacks for after the game,” she said.

Since then, her role has grown into a wide range of volunteer efforts. Bonds contributes through booster clubs, organizes team dinners, helps with fundraising, prepares goody bags and participates in programs such as Adopt-a-Bulldog. Her approach is simple: help wherever needed.

“I try to help in any and every way that I can,” she said.

Her motivation stems from admiration for the students and coaches she supports.

“The athletes and coaches are what motivate me,” Bonds said. “I know how hard they all work, on and off the court. Whether it’s a snack or drink or just encouragement, I want to be there and do anything I can for them.”

While supporting her daughters has been meaningful, Bonds said the relationships built along the way stand out most.

“What I find most rewarding is the relationships you get to build with their teammates, coaches and other parents,” she said. “Altus Schools is made up of some incredible students, coaches and parents.”

Among her most memorable moments are her daughters’ athletic achievements. She recalled Neely’s senior swim season, when a health scare led to a diagnosis of Type 1 diabetes just days before a major meet. Despite the setback, Neely returned to competition within days and later placed in the top eight in three events at the state meet.

For Lyla, Bonds pointed to a standout freshman year that included a historic volleyball season, a state tournament appearance and a state qualification in tennis doubles.

Above all, Bonds hopes her involvement sends a clear message.

“We are always going to show up,” she said.

Her advice to other parents is straightforward: “Get involved and show up. The years fly by.”
