Ashley Fioritto experienced the excitement of being a state runner-up not once, but twice as a swimmer for Altus High School. “I am always going to remember the feeling of joy rushing through me when we heard the news and the screams of my team, knowing all the work was worth it, that we did something that great,” she said.
She has high hopes of making another trip to state as a senior. “I like representing my school because swim is not something that gets a lot of recognition. When we can bring light to the sport, it gives hope of more people joining and keeping it alive,” said Ashley.
Why stop trying when you’ve already come this far? This question changed the way she looks at everything. “There is never a good reason to give up on something when it gets hard. Swim has taught me to always push harder and not let my mind be my body’s limit,” says Ashley.
Her passion for swim is about more than simple enjoyment of the sport. “Swimming helped me grow as a person. Whether I needed to get some anger out or was feeling great about myself, swimming always helped.”
Coaches and teammates are instrumental in pushing her to the next level. “Coach Wig has never given up on me. Through the hardest times she was by my side, pushing me to keep going. Bailey Allemeier is one of my closest friends and has never stopped motivating me daily even after moving for college. She showed me how to use my weaknesses as strengths and I will never forget her because of her kindness and strength,” says Ashley.
Family and faith play a valuable role in Ashley’s life. “I thank my sister for being my best friend through and through, my mother for her never-ending love and support, and the Lord for giving me the chance to spread kindness through my actions. Jesus Christ has given everything so that we can have a life full of goodness. I strive to use that goodness to motivate others just like he has,” she says.
Ashley is already earning college credits as a concurrent college student, she is a member of Link Crew, teaches at her church, and is a lifeguard.
