VYPE: What grade are you in this year and how long have you played?
Evyn: I’m a sophomore and I’ve been playing volleyball since 7th grade.
VYPE: Jump serve or standing serve? Which do you prefer and why?
Evyn: I stand serve because I am more consistent with stand serving and because I can place where I want my serve to go.
VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade and why?
Evyn: My favorite teacher is Mr. Tucker from 7th grade geography because he always made class fun and made me laugh and was always a great coach.
VYPE: Which professional athlete do you look up to?
Evyn: I look up to Jayda Coleman because she always gives glory to God in everything she does and is a hardworking and great example of what an athlete should be like all around.
VYPE: What accomplishment or memory are you most proud of?
Evyn: My best accomplishment would have to be when our team was ranked #15 last year because that was the highest an Altus volleyball team had been ranked. My favorite memory would be when we beat Clinton at home last year because the student section was so big and the energy was just amazing.
VYPE: What is your favorite part about representing your high school as an athlete?
Evyn: My favorite part about representing Altus High School as an athlete is the pride that I feel when I put on an Altus bulldog uniform and go out and compete against other schools and the support from the community.
VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?
Evyn: If I had to pick a teammate that left the biggest impression on me it would have to be Hayden Castillo because of the endless hours she puts in on all of her sports. She is always working hard during practice and outside of practice on her own time. She also glorifies God while playing sports which is the biggest impact she has had on me.
VYPE: How do you define leadership? What do you do to example leadership with your team?
Evyn: I define leadership as someone who sets an example for others to follow and will always lift up the team no matter what and puts the needs of the team before their own.
Our team motto this year is “we before me” so I show leadership by not worrying about how much playing time I get or worry about if I’m playing back row or front row, I just go where coach Garrison puts me.

Evyn: I want to thank both of my parents for always supporting me and pushing me to be the best person and player I can be. They’ve sacrificed many hours to help me get to be the player I am today. They always come to support me at my games and I’m never afraid to disappoint them because I know they’ll always love me and be proud of me.\
