The term ‘soccer mom’ brings to mind an SUV driving mom hauling chairs, snacks, drinks, and a first-aid kit…just in case. For Christie Kidder, this role is a little broader. She helps throughout Altus High School’s activities. “I love to help out with anything! From fundraising, prom, sponsoring teacher appreciation events, really anything my girls have been involved in,” she exclaims.

Having raised three girls, with one still at home, Christie is enjoying every minute she has left with her daughter Izzy who is a junior on the AHS golf team. She does more than travel to golf tournaments in support of her own daughter; Christie is a mom supporting the entire team. 

“Last week one of the girls was very nervous, so Izzy asked me if I’d walk with her, so I did,” she says, “whatever anyone needs, I don’t really have a role, just being the helper.” 

The most important part of getting involved in your child’s school activities is to, “have fun!” says Christie. This advice applies to the kids as well. The school years should be a fun and memorable time for both kids and parents.

Involvement is also a way to get to know the other parents and kids in the school. Being involved in her children’s activities at school brought Christie closer to them. “I get to spend more time with them and that is priceless. I had to miss tons of time with my girls so any time with them is valuable,” she said.

While it can be easy to get wrapped up in the competition of sports, Christie sees traveling to tournaments and other events as an opportunity to get to know parents from other schools. “I love getting to know parents from different teams. We root everyone on,” said Christie.

Christie is a proud AHS mom building precious memories with her family. She also has the joy of being able to help other kids along the way. “I just love being with kids,” she says.
