Jenna Blackford-Altus High School Presented by Frazer Bank
Softball has always been a constant in Jenna Blackford’s life. From T-ball, travel ball and now her Altus High School team, Jenna does everything she can to never let her teammates down.
“Softball has taught me to enjoy whatever stage of life I’m in and to not always want the end goal of whatever I’m waiting for,” she says. “Just enjoy every moment you have with your team, because there is always a clock ticking somewhere.”
Now a junior, Jenna values her team and the bonds they have built. “Being able to succeed together after being through so much adversity,” is the best part of a team she says. “No one outside of our team knows how much work we do.”
Hard work pays off. Jenna’s favorite game this year was beating Elgin. “No one thought we would win. I love being the underdog in sports,” she says. Moments like this make her particularly proud to grow up in Altus, where the support from the community is unmatched.
Jenna looks up to many people helping her to grow as a softball player and as a person. Former OU softball player, Grace Lyons, is a role model to many softball girls. “I love how she holds herself not only on the field but in her Christian values off the field.” Teachers, Mr. Garrison and Ms. Jrob have both left a lasting impression on Jenna throughout high school. “They are always there to talk to even if they just humble me,” she said.
Fellow teammate, Savannah Clothier, has left the biggest impression this past season. “She always is there to calm the atmosphere of a game for her team. She always reminds us that it is just a game and to enjoy it,” said Jenna.
Jenna is most thankful to her parents for pushing her this far and to all her coaches and teammates. Jenna would love to go to Hawaii with her mom who is her biggest inspiration. “She never gives up on me. I want to be better because of her,” she says. Jenna plays travel softball year around and also plays high school basketball, and runs track.
