Altus High School’s Harley Snapp – Pom Spotlight – Presented by Consolidated Bearing

By Payton Moody
On Altus High School’s pom squad, Harley Snapp exemplifies hard work, dedication and the power of a supportive teammate.

Snapp had a standout coach make an impact on her pom journey: “My favorite coach by far has to be Mrs. Lisa Hunter. She’s not just creative and caring, but also pushes us to do better. Her dedication has mme a better dancer.”

In the world of sports, teammates play a vital role, and Snapp holds hers in high regard.

“My teammates are incredible motivators, and they genuinely care about each other,” she said.

Favorite teachers often leave a lasting impact, and for Snapp, that teacher is Mrs. Abernathy. “She was patient during my struggles and always there to offer support,” Snapp recalled. “Even now, she has words of encouragement whenever I meet her.”

To prepare for the upcoming dance season, Snapp put in the work during the off-season. “I did exercises to ensure I’m in shape for half-times and competitions,” she shared.

Dedication and fitness are essential aspects of her training routine.

The lessons learned in pom extend far beyond the dance floor. “One important lesson I’ve learned is not to get frustrated with myself and to accept that making mistakes is okay,” Snapp noted.

Among the cherished memories, Snapp recalled their pom squad’s journey to the state competition last year. “It was an incredible experience for all of us,” she reminisced.

As for the current season, Snapp’s goals are clear. “Our team’s main objective is to make it to state and perhaps even win. Individually, I want to be more motivated and determined,” she said. Looking ahead to the matchups, Snapp is most excited about facing the Bulldogs and the Duncan Demons.

Beyond high school, Snapp has ambitious plans: “I intend to attend Southwestern Oklahoma State University to pursue a degree in education and eventually earn my master’s.”

Harley Snapp showcases the spirit of passion and perseverance. She is an inspiration to her teammates and a reminder to us all that hard work, commitment and the support of those around us can help us achieve greatness.
