Throughout an athlete’s career, there are moments that are impressed into their memory forever. Chloe Hill says that one memory that will stay with her for a long time happened in 2019 and was a personal accomplishment that she is still proud of.
“Our softball team was playing a doubleheader against Ardmore during my freshman year,” she recalled. “I hit a home run over the left field fence, where my grandmother was parked, and I could hear her honking her horn as I trotted around the bases.”
Hill is a junior at Altus High School, where she plays multiple positions for the softball team. She pitches, plays third base, left field, and right field. She first started playing softball when she was five years old, but did not begin playing competitively until she was ten years old. Chloe’s life has been influenced by different people, but she says that there is one person that played a major role in her becoming who she is today.
“My biggest influence is my older sister, Brooke Hill,” she said. “I wouldn’t be playing softball if it wasn’t for her. She has always pushed me to be better and to try my hardest even when things get rough. I even had a few opportunities to play alongside her, making my softball experience even better.”
The success that Chloe has experienced during her career has not just been handed to her. She has worked hard and spent a lot of time being mentally and physically prepared.
“Being a solid athlete is not easy,” she said. “It takes a good work ethic, and a lot of sacrifice. My parents instilled in me a good work ethic from a young age, teaching me that nothing would be given to me, I would have to work for and earn everything. The sacrifices I’ve made were those such as little-to-no social life, because I’m always practicing in town or going out of town for lessons, missing out on school events such as football games, school dances, and most other typical teenage activities.”
Hill is also a member of the National Honor Society and Leo’s Club at AHS.
