Altus High School senior Jacob Johnson brings a physical, team-first mindset to everything he does. A guard and nose tackle for the Bulldogs, Johnson also competes in powerlifting, embracing the demanding work required to make an impact in both sports.
Johnson’s faith serves as his central source of motivation. He approaches athletics with an understanding that progress comes through commitment, focus, and a willingness to improve every day.
“Jesus motivates me.”
The senior credits several important people in his life for setting an example through their actions. His parents, youth pastor, boss, and coach have all influenced Johnson, particularly through the work ethic they display.
“My biggest role models are my parents, youth pastor, my boss, and my coach because of their work ethic.”
Johnson said his teacher, Mr. Davis, has also made a meaningful impact on his high school experience. While he is involved in athletics, Johnson remains committed to finding a balance between school responsibilities and his other activities. He is also associated with FCCLA, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America.
“It takes a schedule and plan.”
On the field, Johnson takes pride in the work that happens away from the spotlight. He said success in football and powerlifting has required complete dedication and focus. That mentality shows up during practice, where he enjoys competing against teammate Jaxon Roman because of the effort Roman brings each day.
“It’s taken full dedication and focus to get better.”
Johnson’s favorite career memory came during a high-scoring performance against Noble, when Altus put 70 points on the scoreboard. He also enjoys the challenge and excitement that comes with defeating Lawton-area opponents.
“The highest moment of my career was our 70-point game at Noble.”
Johnson believes teammate Ryker Tims deserves more recognition for what he brings to the Bulldogs. As a senior, Johnson values the opportunity to represent a school and community with a strong passion for football.
“It means a lot to play for the Bulldogs. This town loves football.”
