Jenna Blackford feels proud to represent Altus High School at a high level in athletics. She is passionate about making accomplishments in sports not seen before in her school. It has been exciting, and she plans to make the most of her senior year by adding to those accomplishments.
Playing basketball builds a bond with teammates and teaches life lessons. She will always remember celebrating the big wins with her team while remembering to appreciate all the little things in between. “Always enjoy the climb and not just the end result of whatever you are working for,” she says.
Jenna plays post for the Lady Bulldogs basketball team. She, however, is also a top athlete on the track team. Jenna has a verbal commitment to Oklahoma Baptist University where she plans to continue her academic and athletic career on their track and field team.
When it comes to choosing a teammate who makes the biggest impact, she cannot choose just one. “Each of my teammates has left an impression on me from all my sports. Each of them has helped shape me into who I am today. Thank you to everyone who has constantly supported me over the years. As I wrap up my final year in these sports, I am grateful for everyone who has been there for me,” says Jenna.
Looking up to professional athletes can motivate young players. Jenna admires former OU quarterback Baker Mayfield, now with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. “I love how he approaches the game with so much energy,” she said.
Her favorite teacher is Mrs. Bailey. “I’ve had her for three high school math classes. She is always understanding and willing to listen to any rants that we may have. She is the sweetest person I have ever met,” said Jenna.
The biggest inspiration in Jenna’s life is her mom. “My mom inspires me because without her I wouldn’t be who I am. She has constantly inspired me to be better every day in whatever I choose to do. I couldn’t have asked for a better mom than her. Anyone would be grateful to call her family,” she says.
In addition to basketball, Jenna plays softball, throws in track, and serves as president for both Student Council and the National Honor Society at AHS.
