Savannah Clothier is known in Altus for her work ethic.
“Savannah is one of the hardest-working young people I know,” Altus High School softball coach Jessica Robinson said.” She would play anywhere we asked her to, and give it 100%. She is also a great leader, always encouraging others, and willing to do anything for the team. I can’t say enough good things about her.”
Clothier, an AHS senior, relishes that compliment. She comes by her work ethic from her parents, Kevin and Stacy. She has one older brother, Luke, and one younger sister, Lily.
“They have instilled in me to give my 110% effort at all times,” Clothier said. “To put in the hard work and dedication to everything I do.”
Clothier’s intense dedication can sometimes come off as obsession. Last year, the junior often struggled in striving for perfection.
“[I was] trying to be perfect all the time and never getting to enjoy playing my favorite sport,” Clothier said. “[I learned] to not take everything so seriously and just try to enjoy everything in the moment.”
Clothier believes the Bulldogs can make a deep postseason run, perhaps even a state tournament appearance. It’s going to take “dedication” and living by the #CLIMB journey, a motto the team coined after her sophomore year, “just to remind ourselves the journey is more important than the end goal.”
“Altus Softball is going to play hard and play together as a team and do great things. You can expect the same from all the other sports programs in Altus as well,” Clothier said.
The community of Altus is in their corner.
“It’s a big town with a small town feel, and everyone is family,” Clothier said.
Clothier’s teammates thrive on her can-do attitude, so much that she was named a captain for the 2024 season.
“It means that I get to lead a great group of girls and show the spirit of being a Bulldog,” Clothier said.
She’s also a leader in the hallways at AHS. Clothier will serve this year as senior class president. She is also heavily involved with National Honor Society and her youth group.
“[Leadership] is a good trait that shows character,” Clothier said. “That role helps me give something back to my class.”
After high school, Clothier plans to pursue a degree in business and thanks her family and coaches for their guidance.
