Altus High School sophomore Austin Falon has only been playing golf a couple years.
“I played baseball and football in junior high. After a knee injury in football my eighth-grade year, I decided to play golf in the spring,” Falon said. “When I was younger I participated in several week-long golf camps. I also played baseball every summer since I was 4 years old.
After my football knee injury, I realized I wouldn’t be able to play baseball.“ So I started looking for another sport to stay active and to play in school.”
Falon is the youngest of three AHS graduates. His family moved to Altus as his father was active duty in the Air Force. Falon said the transition from swinging a bat to swinging a club was easy and allowed him to adapt to the game quicker.
“I’ve learned a lot playing with the upperclassmen of the AHS golf team,” Falon said.
He also has been playing in the Greenbelt Golf League the past few summers.
“Playing in the Greenbelt Golf League has also given me the opportunity to play with many different people and golf courses in the region,” Falon said. “All the playing time has improved my game.”
Falon’s goals for the 2024 season are to improve his overall game and emphasize consistency in his short game.
“It’s also important to me to be a good teammate to all members of the Bulldog golf team,” Falon said. “I’m thankful for the support from my family and coach [Dusty] Davis. I’m looking forward for the next golf season.”
