Altus High School junior Levi Hunter has excelled in basketball since he first stepped on the court. A loyal power forward and center, he uses strength and perseverance to dominate the boards and put up points for his team. This season, Hunter is focused on staying present and is ready to lead his teammates even when the pressure is on.
Hunter is guided by the most important thing in his life, his faith in Jesus. His relationship with God inspires him to achieve greatness, reminding him that nothing can be accomplished without hope and confidence. He’s also heavily influenced by his parents, who have set powerful examples that extend beyond the basketball court.
“Every day when I leave, my dad says, ‘Do your best,’ and I respond, ‘And be a leader’. He’s been doing that for me and my brother ever since we were in pre-K,” he shares.
A major accomplishment for the Junior came when he was honored with the Basketball Leadership Award. The recognition meant a lot to him, as he strives to be a leader both on and off the court. He enjoys setting an example for younger athletes who look up to him, always encouraging them with one simple message:
“Work hard and don’t be afraid to mess up, but most importantly, love Jesus,” he says.
For Hunter, being a student athlete requires dedication, time, and energy. His parents have always encouraged him to earn straight A’s, which sometimes means sacrificing other activities to reach that goal. Representing both his school and his last name means everything to him.
“It’s a huge honor, but also a huge responsibility,” he shares.
After high school, he plans to attend a university, though he’s still undecided about his major. He has chosen the path of just following and trusting in the Lord to lead him towards his future.
