Jamele Alexander is a senior at Altus High School. He participates in football and track. He began his career in sports at four years old. His parents started him off with soccer. Soccer was okay, but he eventually tried football and has loved it ever since. His favorite part about football is running out of the bulldog on Friday nights and hearing the entire town cheer for his team, and listening to the band play throughout the night.
“There’s nothing else like it,” Alexander said.
The highest moment in his career so far was last year when he tied for the record of most touchdowns in a single game and broke the school’s record for most touchdowns in a single season. He’s also been awarded Player of the Week multiple times.
Alexander’s biggest positive impact and role model is his mom, because she’s a strong woman who does so much for him and his family.
“I try to work hard so that I’m able to repay her one day,” Alexander said.
For fun, Alexander likes to relax, watch football, and play football. His favorite subject in school is English, because he enjoys reading and writing. His favorite teachers have been Ms. Lampkin, Ms. Miller, Mrs. Latham, Mrs. Lollis, and Mrs. Bailey, because they were really good teachers and he could always ask them for anything. After high school, Alexander plans to play football in college and either get a business degree to go into real estate or study sports medicine.
To Alexander, being a great athlete means having a good work ethic, dedication, discipline, and mental preparation. When things get tough for him, he thinks about his future and his goals to help him keep going. Sports have taught him that hard work beats talent, discipline is important, and no matter how many times you get knocked down, always get back up. His advice to his fellow athletes is that as long as you know what you’re doing and you put in the work, you’ll fit in just fine.
