Suzanne Waites is an example of dedication, support, and heart. She balances a demanding career while cheering on her two daughters at every turn. Suzanne and her husband, Matt, will celebrate 20 years of marriage this March. Matt has been her biggest supporter, and Suzanne says she couldn’t do what she does without his love, help, and encouragement.
Their two daughters, Emily and Ali, both attend Altus High School. Emily, a junior, is a standout athlete, participating in pom in the fall, swimming in the winter, and golf in the spring. She has lettered in all three sports and has qualified for state in each, achieving the remarkable feat of lettering in golf as a freshman. Ali, a freshman, is equally active, playing volleyball in the fall, basketball in the winter, and track in the spring, all while pursuing her passion for dance at Cirque Dance Studio.
For the past 13 years, Suzanne has worked as a civilian court reporter for the U.S. Air Force. Her career requires frequent travel, but the flexibility it offers allows her to be present for her daughters’ school and sporting events whenever possible. “It’s a career that keeps me on the move, but never too far from what matters most, my family,” she says.
Being involved in her daughters’ activities is a top priority for Suzanne. She believes there’s nothing more important than kids being able to look up in the stands and see their parents supporting them. From attending games to volunteering for team dinners and special events, Suzanne is always present and active in their athletic journeys. The toughest part, she admits, is watching the pressure her daughters place on themselves. “They’re often their own toughest critics, even more than I’ve ever been on them,” she says, noting the challenge of balancing three sports with academics.
Suzanne also places strong emphasis on teaching her children priorities and values. “My parents always taught me that when you put God first, everything else falls into place,” she explains. She strives to instill the same principle in Emily and Ali, helping them make wise choices guided by faith and values.
Beyond her family, Suzanne gives back to the school community as the treasurer for the Altus All Sports Association and serves as an officer for both the Altus High School Volleyball Booster Club and Basketball Tip-In Club. She credits the Altus community for its strong sense of trust and support, calling it a place where “it takes a village,” and truly feels like home.
Suzanne Waites’ dedication, faith, and unwavering support make her the perfect choice for Mom of the Month, a true champion for her family and community.
