Sometimes life has a way of working things out for us in ways we do not expect. There are times when we do something that does not seem like much but then it turns into something that changes our life. That is the case for Jana Cobb.
“I became a teacher out of necessity,” she said. “I was a single mother of two beautiful daughters, and I had to have a profession where I would have the time to raise my daughters and also be able to make a salary so I could provide for them. I had no idea that when I chose teaching out of necessity that it would truly be what I feel I was chosen to do. I feel blessed for the people I have worked with and for the many students I have had the pleasure to teach and watch grow into great adults.”
Cobb teaches English II and English IV at Frederick High School, where she has taught for eleven years. Before coming back to Frederick where she had taught years before, she also taught at Southwest Oklahoma Juvenile Center in Manitou for 15 years and Davidson High School for three years.
While teaching was a career that Jana had wanted to pursue for most of her life, it has turned out to be something that has had such a positive impact on her and she tries to pass it on to her students.
“What I enjoy about being a teacher is the hope that I can make a positive impact on my students,” she said. “I use my classroom to empower my students to always see their value and worth. I love the subject matter I teach, and I love bringing the love of language and reading to my students, but most of all I enjoy seeing who my students mature into being. I so enjoy seeing their successes.”
