Altus’ Maci Hayes – Softball Spotlight – Presented by Harmon Electric

It takes hard work to accomplish goals. Maci Hayes learned this lesson playing sports. A senior at Altus High School, Maci plays both softball and basketball, but she has a special love for softball.

Her favorite part of being on a team are the relationships and memories made with teammates. “I am passionate about softball because I find happiness and excitement when I’m on the field with my team,” she said.

Maci started playing T-ball in Hollis. Once old enough to join a travel ball team she knew softball was what she loved. “Being a person younger girls can look up to when they get older,” is the best part of representing AHS as a student athlete, she says.

Maci was once told to go out there and have fun because she plays better when she is having a good time. Following that advice has made her a better player. She fondly remembers the feeling of hitting her first homerun over the fence and that was definitely fun.

Jenna Blackford is the teammate who leaves the biggest impression on Maci. “Jenna is a great example of what a leader is. She works hard at everything she does and never fails to pick someone up when they are down,” she said.

The athlete she looks up to is University of Oklahoma softball player Rylie Boone. Maci admires not only Boone’s skill, but the excitement and positive attitude she shows on the field.

One of her favorite teachers is Mrs. Walling. “She was my kindergarten teacher, and she has always been so sweet to me as I grew up,” said Maci.

Maci’s biggest inspiration is her dad. “My dad is my biggest inspiration because he is always encouraging me and has always been right by my side. I also would love to give a huge thank you to my grandparents for always coming to watch me play no matter what sport it is. They have been my biggest supporters,” she says.
