Garrett Gribble is a multi-sport athlete who shows his skill year-round on the football field and the baseball diamond. This Altus High School senior’s determination and drive impact both his teams.

Garrett is a team leader. Being an athlete has taught him discipline. The diversity of playing different sports has strengthened his athleticism, making him a valuable player to his coaches and teammates.

His favorite part of being on a team is the brotherhood formed with teammates. “As soon as I was old enough, I got into sports because me and my friends wanted to play together. I am passionate about my sport because I get to play for my town and my brothers next to me,” he says.

The community support for high school athletics is high in Altus. Garrett values his community and enjoys representing AHS as an athlete, making his community proud.

Garrett is inspired by his many coaches. Seeing them show up every day to support their players lets Garrett and his teammates know they are valued as individuals during the highs and lows of a season. Football, track and freshman basketball coach, Mr. Dabs, who also teaches geometry, is one of his favorite teachers. “Coach Dabs treats everyone the same,” said Garrett.

Looking back at his high school years, many of the best memories were made during the team dinners. Being able to unwind and enjoy free time with friends and teammates is the best, especially when it involves his favorite meal of steak and potatoes.

Garrett looks up to Dustin Poirier, a UFC mixed martial artist in the lightweight division. “He never complains and doesn’t care who he fights,” he said.

“I want to shoutout to my mom and dad for always supporting me no matter what,” says Garrett. He would spend his dream vacation with his family enjoying Hawaii.

The best advice Garrett has ever received is to “trust in the Lord always,” he said.

In addition to football and baseball, Garrett is in National Honor Society and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
