Altus’ Jaime Reyna – Presented by Jackson County Memorial Hospital – Orthopedic Clinic

By Payton Moody

Jaime Reyna is an educator and coach whose passion for making a difference in students’ lives shines through in every aspect of his work at Altus High School. With a strong support system, a commitment to his students, and a love for various activities, Reyna is a dedicated member of the educational community.

For 11 years, Reyna has been a part of Altus High School, where he teaches Spanish to grades 9-12. His dedication extends beyond the classroom as he also coaches cross country and soccer.

Reyna’s journey in education began at Cache, where he taught for 2 years before joining Altus High School. “I wanted to make a difference in kids’ lives,” Reyna said. This desire to have a positive impact on young minds has been a driving force in his career. Among his influences, Reyna fondly recalls his 6th-grade teacher, Mr. Rios. “He was always very encouraging,” Reyna recalls, highlighting the power of supportive teachers in shaping students’ outlook on education and life.

What Reyna enjoys most about being an educator is the opportunity to build strong bonds with his students. “The bonds I get to create with my kids,” he said. These connections form the foundation for meaningful learning experiences and personal growth.

Reyna’s approach to teaching and respect is a testament to his effectiveness as an educator. “I have found
that in giving my students the respect they deserve, they show the respect back,” he said.

Outside of his teaching and coaching roles, Reyna enjoys a variety of activities. “I enjoy running, working out, fishing, and binge-watching TV,” he shares.

Reyna’s coaching philosophy echoes his commitment to hard work and personal growth. He often imparts the wisdom, “A goal without hard work is nothing but a fantasy or a dream,” to his players.

With a passion for teaching, coaching, and fostering strong relationships, Jaime Reyna stands as a testament to the positive influence educators can have on their students’ lives. His commitment to making a difference and his wellrounded approach to education make him a valuable asset to the Altus High School community
