Harley Snapp, a Junior at Altus High School is a member of the pom squad and runs track. She is also involved in link crew NHS, Kay Club, and dances at Cirque Dance Studio.
“I started dance at three and the love for it just kept growing,” she says, “then for track I went and tried every other sport to only realize I don’t do anything that involves a ball.”
It takes commitment and resilience to be on pom squad.
The best part of pom is “being so close to all your teammates and hyping each other up,” says Harley, “it’s representing my school by being an athlete and being part of something that has tradition and values.”
Going to state last year in pom was a huge accomplishment she will never forget.
Harley looks up to the OU pom girls. She admires them as great dancers and sees them as awesome leaders.
Many teachers, coaches, friends and family have helped her reach her goals. “Mrs. Abernathy has tons of patience and she inspired me to want to go into teaching
“My dance coach, Lisa Hunter, is so creative and fun to be around! And the sweetest coach ever,” said Harley.
Teammate, Savannah Clothier, also leaves a big impression “for always being real with me, being my coach but also an awesome friend at the same time,” she says.
Harley wants to shout out to her parents and boyfriend for always encouraging her to be herself by always having fun and trying her hardest to be kind.
Harley lives by her dads words. “Just keep pushing, you might feel uncomfortable but that is what makes you better by pushing yourself!”
Harley says her passion for pom and dance is simple. “Because I’ve done it my whole life.”
