Tennis was part of Racer Burrow’s life before he ever played a match for Altus High School.
“A bunch of my friends and family played tennis, so I thought I would tryWe it and I ended up loving it,” Burrow said. “I was raised in a family of tennis players, so it has always been a part of my life.”
Burrow’s older cousin, Tristan Gregg, was a standout player for the Bulldogs and graduated in 2022.
“But he [Gregg] still plays a lot and we hit about every other day,” Burrow said.
Burrow and teammate John Preston made the 5A state tennis tournament in No. 1 doubles earlier this year.
“With hard work and commitment, I can improve and be as good as I want to be,” Burrow said.
“Just to see the growth of how far I’ve come as a person and a player since I’ve started is a big accomplishment, and how much I improve year after year and making it to state my freshman and sophomore year is something I’m proud of.” Burrow’s goals for the next year are to “just go out there and work hard every single day.”
“. . . And just be the best player I can be and give it my all and do what I can to make my teammates better,” Burrow said. “I’ve grown a lot and accomplished a lot as a player more and more each year with just a lot of practice, hard work and determination.”
For his junior year, Burrow aims to make more strides in his game and represent the Bulldogs at the 5A tournament again.
“Being a Bulldog and representing Altus means a lot,” Burrow said. “I hope I can continue to compete well at state and represent them well.”
