Altus High School senior Baylee Pence is known for being a member of the softball and tennis teams at school, but she is also a big part of the FFA chapter at Altus. Pence started in FFA as soon as she was eligible, and it is a big part of her high school experience.
“I have been a member of the Altus FFA Chapter for five years, and a Chapter Officer for three years now. I have also been a member of the Jackson County 4-H for seven years,” said Pence. “I started shooting shotguns at a very young age. I began competing at age 10, seven years ago.”
Shooting is an activity Pence has become very efficient at over the years, winning several awards and honors along the way.
“I enjoy getting to meet new people at every shoot and watching young kids excel. I also enjoy getting to shoot with older experienced people and learn something new at every shoot,” said Pence. “I practice a couple times a week, and even more when competitions come around.”
Speaking of practice, Pence somehow finds the time for softball, a sport she has played even longer than she has been involved in shooting.
“I played tennis for the first time last year as a junior and qualified for state. I have played softball since I was four and look forward to my senior season. I also made the 2021-2022 All-District Team for softball last year,” said Pence.
Pence is a member of NHS, Kay Klub, and Link Crew. Her future plans include going to Western Oklahoma State College and joining the shooting team.
