Altus’ Zoe Grubaugh – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Legacy Insurance

2021 Altus Softball Schedule

Zoe Grubaugh is a member of the varsity softball team at Altus High School. Grubaugh plays second base and outfielder and loves the teammates she gets to take the field with.

“I love that my teammates and I can be ourselves around each other, and whenever you’re having a bad day at practice, they are right there to pick you up and keep you going,” said Grubaugh.

Like many of her peers, Grubaugh started playing softball at a young age.

“I started playing softball when I was seven, but I had a two-year break when I was in the fifth and sixth grades because my family moved to Turkey,” said Grubaugh.

As a military brat, Grubaugh attended an international school on base with more than 50 countries represented. Grubaugh is focused on her academics as well and she participates in other sports such as track and other activities such as Student Council and National Honor Society.

“Academics are one of the most important things to me. I have been blessed to always get good grades and I enjoy school more than most kids. My favorite subject has always been math, but I think mainly because it comes easy to me,” said Grubaugh.

This season Grubaugh and her teammates are looking to turn things around and get back to the state tournament.

“I am most looking forward to getting things done and making it to the state tournament. I’m excited to see what the upcoming freshman can do, and they are already looking very promising,” said Grubaugh. “For me, I expect hustle and hard work, especially out of the underclassmen. Another aspect I think is very important is communicating and being vocal on and off the field.”

Grubaugh tries to set a good example for others and is always focused on what is best for the team.

“A good teammate is someone who will push themselves and they will always do what’s best for the team, whether that’s playing in a completely different spot, or pinch running or even being the loudest person on the bench,” said Grubaugh.

After she graduates, Grubaugh would like to attend medical school and become a trauma surgeon. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, fishing, hunting, and driving around listening to music.
