Kylie Allemeier is a junior at Altus High School and is on the swim team. Her favorite things about being a swimmer are the discipline it teaches as well as the feeling of team camaraderie.
Kylie has been involved in swimming for the last eight years after discovering her passion for the sport by accident.
“After my family moved away from Hawaii, I was looking for a way to stay in the water and luckily there was a local swim team connected to the Air Force base,” said Kylie.
Kylie has shared a lot of memories with her team over the years, but her favorite memories always come from their holiday practices. During these practices, they compete in fun races and relays for prizes. This is a fun way for the team to decompress during the stressful season.
One of the biggest role models in Kylie’s life is her swim coach at Altus.
“Coach Wig pushes all of us to do our best and never gives up even when our season is at its most stressful time,” said Kylie.
Motivation is vital to keep athletes’ spirits up during stressful times of the season. Kylie’s motivation for swimming is the pride she feels when she competes and knows she did the very best she could during that particular race.
Kylie’s teammates are some of her closest friends, as well as some of her fiercest competitors.
One of her biggest accomplishments during her time swimming was winning the 2020 5A state championship for the 400 free relay. During the 2021 OSSAA championships, Kylie finished second in the 200 freestyle, fourth in the 500 freestyle as well as swimming the opening leg for the 400 freestyle and 200 Medley relay where Altus swimmers finished fourth and second respectively.
Kylie also swims for the Bison Aquatic Club, is on the Altus track team, is in band, and is also a part of the National Honor Society.
