Abbey Marple, a freshman at Altus High School, is a devoted member of her local Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapter. While she has only participated in FFA for one year, she does not lack in experiences or lessons learned from her time so far.
“My favorite thing about FFA is being able to express yourself through speeches and also learning about how we live today,” said Abbey.
Participating in speeches was what initially caught Abbey’s attention to FFA and made her want to join. Abbey has many responsibilities as a freshman in high school. For her FFA chapter, she is the sentinel for opening and closing ceremonies, participates in speeches during competitions, and is on the agriscience quiz bowl team.
Currently, her main role in her FFA chapter is writing and presenting speeches at competitions. Abbey is also on the girls’ high school basketball team at Altus and is also a varsity cheerleader. Abbey devotes a lot of her free time to these activities, and her hard work definitely shows.
Abbey appreciates all that she has learned from her time in FFA so far including teaching her to appreciate the things in life more.
“My favorite memory so far from FFA is when we were at a contest for the opening and closing ceremony. My ag teacher kept trying to fix our collars on our jackets because they kept sticking up,” said Abbey.
She has made many memories with her fellow FFA members and is looking forward to making many more over the next few years. As pictured, Abbey and her FFA team recently won first place for their opening and closing ceremonies.
Abbey is excited for her future and all of the great opportunities that await her throughout high school. A goal she has set for herself is to be in the top ten of her class at graduation.
